Madras High Court conducts written Exam on 17.01.2015 , 18.01.2015 for the recruitment to 8 Posts of Civil Judges in Puducherry Judicial Service to be made by direct recruitment under the provisions of the Puducherry Judicial Service (Cadre and Recruitment) Rules, 2008.

Translation Paper –   9.30 am to 12.30 pm on 17.01.2015

Law Paper I –   2.00 pm to   5.00 pm on 17.01.2015

Law Paper II –   9.30 am to 12.30 pm on 18.01.2015

Law Paper III –   2.00 pm to   5.00 pm on 18.01.2015

Madras High Court Civil Judge Exam Selection Process: The process of selection will comprise of a written examination in 4 papers, namely Translation Paper, Law Paper I, Law Paper II and Law Paper III, each for a maximum of 100 marks and a Viva-voce for a maximum of 60 marks. The candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes should secure a minimum of 30% marks in each of the Papers, to be qualified for Viva-voce. The candidates belonging to OBCs should secure a minimum of 35% marks in each of the Papers to qualify for Viva-voce. The candidates belonging to the General Categories should secure a minimum of 40% marks in each of the Papers to qualify for Viva-voce.

Only those who qualify with the minimum marks prescribed as above in each of the Papers in the written examination will be called for Viva-voce. In the Viva-voce, a candidate should secure a minimum of 18 out of 60 marks to qualify for eventual selection.

The eventual selection will be based upon the combined results of the written examination and Viva-voce, in the order of merit and after applying the rule of reservation. While Translation Paper and Law Papers II and III relating to writing of judgments in civil and criminal cases will be of descriptive type, Law Paper I covering academic subjects will be of objective type. Therefore, wrong answers may carry negative marks.

(i)Translation paper: There will be one translation paper and the candidates will be required to translate (i) the passages in English into Tamil (or) Malayalam (or) Telugu and likewise, (ii) the passages in Tamil (or) Malayalam (or) Telugu into English at their option. The passages will be from (1) Depositions (2) Judgments; and (3) Documents.

(ii) Law paper-I: The Code of Civil Procedure 1908; The Code of Criminal Procedure 1973; The Indian Evidence Act, 1872; Principles of pleading; and The Constitution of India.

(iii) Law paper-II: Framing of issues and Writing of Judgments in Civil Cases.

(iv) Law paper-III: Framing of charges and Writing of Judgments in Criminal Cases.

(v) Viva-voce: The candidate’s General Knowledge, Knowledge of law, Grasp of Procedural laws & Principles of Law and suitability for appointment as Civil Judge, shall be tested.
