Civil services candidates, who are trying to write the prestigious exam, will now get six attempts. OBC category candidates, who are allowed seven attempts as per the rules, can now take the exam nine times. There is no cap anyway on attempts by a candidate of the SC/ST category.

Civil Services 2016 Selection Process
The Civil Services Examination will consist of two successive stages
(i) Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective type)
(ii) Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview)
Candidates should note that there will be penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.

For all others – 6 times
Application Fee: Rs.100/- & for Female/SC/ST/PH Candidates – No Fee

Civil Services 2016 Admit cards: The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admission Certificate three weeks before the commencement of the examination. The e-Admission Certificate will be made available on the UPSC website [www.upsc.gov.in] for downloading by candidates. No Admission Certificate will be sent by post.
